You may have seen the phrase “Harlem Shake” circulating around social media sites lately. I hadn’t bothered to check it out until I saw it paired with Star Wars (the inclusion of those two words will make me click on most links).
The Harlem Shake is a dance and according to the Hero Complex, it follows a specific formula:
Set to a clip from a song by Baauer, the videos (and the song) have a two-part structure. When the first part plays, one person — often wearing a mask — dances while being ignored by the other the people in the scene. Then the beat changes and the scene changes: Suddenly everyone is wearing crazy costumes and going nuts.
It’s practically made for cosplayers, and if you’re still on the fence about watching Jedi and astromechs cut a rug, the clip’s only 30 seconds. I like the one with humans, but I love the one with action figures.
